Discovering hidden stories embedded within the natural veins of exotic stone slabs; using light projection to accentuate and bring them to life.
The word “ALMA” means the earth. It is also an acronym for Accentual Light Mapping Art. The process of crafting an ALMA begins with an intense discovery phase where an artist will carefully scrutinize countless slabs of natural stone with uniquely intricate veining and beauty. He or she will be searching for scenes and stories that are made up of the veining, yet are hidden from clear view within the stone’s complex visual cacophony.
Once a scene has been discovered, the artist, together with the ALMA team, will map out a precise outline of the particular veins that make up the discovered scene and recreate it as a standalone artwork, utilizing a variety of means and methods.
Upon completion of the artwork, the studio digitally extracts elements of the art and projects it directly onto the stone, calibrating it precisely with the veining that made up the original scene.
The final step in the process is the creation of a media file in which the art slowly fades in and then back out again.
The result is that as the projection gradually fades in, the stone comes to life, communicating profound visual expression. And even when the light fades out, the scene remains in the mind of the viewer, the stone forever elevated into a brilliant work of art.
